According to a survey last weekend of more than 1,300 RVers by RVtravel.com, 56 percent of recreational vehicle enthusiasts would buy a diesel-powered motorhome or tow vehicle if they were buying an RV today. Forty-four percent would prefer a gasoline-powered vehicle. In a similar survey on the website in January, 2008, fifty-one percent of the more than 2,400 participants reported they currently drove a gasoline-powered motorhome or tow vehicle.
In a survey in mid-November, after fuel prices had plummeted from record highs to about $2 a gallon, only 10 percent of more than 3,000 RV Travel readers reported they would travel “much more.” Sixty-five percent said their RVing travel plans would not change.
RVtravel.com began surveying its readers in October, 2003 and has conducted more than 350 since. “Anyone who takes the time to read though the surveys will learn a great deal about RVers and their habits, including their buying habits,” said Chuck Woodbury, editor of the popular website. Archives of the surveys are available at RVtravel.com.
