RVers can keep up with the latest RV news on Twitter. Editor Chuck Woodbury and other RV writers prowl the Web throughout the day searching for the latest web and blog postings and news stories of high interest to RVers, and then in minutes pass the information along in abbreviated form to their followers. “We basically sum up the news in a few words and then provide a link to the story,” said Woodbury.

“It seems like everyone is on Twitter these days,” said Woodbury, who edits the popular website RVtravel.com. “Even members of the U.S. Congress post to Twitter.” Senator John McCain is the most followed member of Congress with more than 106,000 Twitter followers. President Obama provided updates throughout his campaign as part of his successful media campaign. Lance Armstrong “tweeted” during breaks in the recent Tour of California bicycle race to his more than 200,000 followers.

According to media guru Rodney Rumford, about 56 percent of Twitter users say they use the online social communication site for business purposes.

Twitter postings are similar to those in traditional blogs, but are limited to only 140 words. “A Twitter message offers a quick way to get the word of out fast with very little effort. Setting up an account is free and can be set up in minutes. It’s one of the most amazing promotional and public relations tools I’ve ever seen,” said Woodbury, a veteran journalist and RVer who has been profiled on most TV networks, People, USA Today, NPR and in hundreds of daily newspapers. He is also the host of the Better Business Bureau DVD, “Buying a Recreational Vehicle.”

“The RV industry was slow to get involved in the World Wide Web,” said Woodbury, who came the web from the printed periodical world. “They shouldn’t wait on this. Anyone in the RV industry should be using Twitter. “
